Under our Belts

So we set out on our first real family adventure today!!  That's right... after just 17 days on this planet our little Landon was off for his first look at the Country he can call home (at least for the next 20 months).  We packed our little monkey into his car seat, along with enough supplies to last for what seemed like a week and set out to the city of Trier (Which I am positive that you will remember from my post last June!) for a once in a lifetime look at something rather amazing.

After an hour on the road (during which Landon slept the entire time) we jumped in line (along with hundreds of others) to catch a glimpse of the main attraction.  This time we were not there to walk through the Colosseum or prance along the cobblestone roads to the roman gates.  We were there to catch a glimpse of something much more rare,  the Tunic of Jesus Christ.  This is the tunic that is believed to be the garment worn by Christ prior to his crucifixion and quoted in the Gospel of St. John as "seamless."  This is only the 4th time in history that the tunic has been on display for the public since 1933 and has already drawn in crowds of over half a million.

Although it is truly amazing that the tunic is still in tact and definitely a site to see, it is still up for debate as to whether or not it was worth the 2+ hour wait in line with some of the pushiest people I have ever had the privilege of "bumping" into, but had we not gone we would have always wondered :)

Overall we had a great day full of new and exciting experiences (which may or may not include a public changing on the street and sprinting through a hail storm) and not only got our first adventure under our belts but learned two very important lessons in the process!

1) Traveling with an infant is much more exciting and challenging than traveling as a family of two
2) We are blessed with a very good and easy going baby!!

Glad Landon travelled well for you! Hope he slept well last night, too. It is an adventure in itself getting ready to go somewhere with an infant! Do you know how long the tunic will be on display? Love you more! Mom
