Last week Landon's Grandma Kahle arrived in Germany to help us celebrate the Big Birthday (CAN YOU BELIEVE MY LITTLE MONKEY TURNS ONE TOMORROW). Before the big day we decided to adventure out on our first extended vacation with the little man (and by extended vacation I mean more than one night away from home and the comforts of our little routine...wish us luck!)
We left Friday morning and headed out toward Nurnberg Germany. We landed down in the old city center which provided views of beautiful churches, old market places, and cobblestone streets adorned with unique statues. We walked along shops, tasted a couple of local treats, and set out toward the castle...does one ever tire of visiting castles...I think not :P
After a short hike up to the top of the castle, where we got a great view down onto the city we stopped to have a traditional plate of Nurnberg sausages and potato salad, and even fit in a visit to a German chocolate shop before we headed to our hotel to check in.
After checking in and an attempted nap (Landon was much more interested in playing on the new bed than he was of laying on it...but hey, we tried) we set out once again on the tram for the cities Volksfest. Lucky for us the tram stop for the festival was right outside another one of Nurnberg's most famous buildings.. the Kongress hall. This large venue provided the rally point for the Nazi party between 1933 and 1938 and provided a first hand glimpse into the magnitude and life of the Nazi party.
After a somewhat somber museum experience we set out for some fun! The volksfest... much like most of the other German festivals we have
visited boasted lots of rides and traditional food for as far as the eye can see. After winning Landon his very own stuffed fish and downing another traditional German meal we were down for the night!
Can you see my sweet puppy boy? |
Then, with two days and nights in Vienna under our belts, we buckled up again for another visit to the alps.... this time Berchtesgaden was our city of choice (and once again you will hear more about this later, after all I have to stretch this out as much as possible so that I have something to blog about until we set out for Barcelona in May :)
